Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MPs Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Prakash Chik Baraik joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on Thursday.
The three leaders were inducted into the party in the presence of West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya at the party’s Salt Lake office, where he welcomed them by presenting BJP flags during a programme
They stepped down from the Rajya Sabha and severed ties with the TMC last month in the aftermath of the party’s loss in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the results of which were declared in May.
Bhattacharya said their induction would bolster the party, citing their vast parliamentary and political experience. “This is truly a matter of great joy. Such prominent leaders are placing their trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party today; they are moving forward with faith in the country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi,”
