In a massive relief for fans at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders finally ended their painful six-game losing streak by defeating the Rajasthan Royals in a nail-biting encounter.
The hero of the night was Rinku Singh, whose calm and composed unbeaten 53 guided the team to a four-wicket victory with just two balls to spare. After nearly three weeks without a win, this performance has injected much-needed life back into KKR’s campaign and moved them off the very bottom of the points table.
The match began with Rajasthan Royals looking dangerous as their openers, including the young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, got off to a flying start. However, KKR’s spin twins, Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine, completely changed the momentum.
Chakaravarthy was particularly brilliant, taking three wickets for just 14 runs and reaching the milestone of 200 T20 wickets. His clever bowling, combined with Kartik Tyagi’s sharp spells at the end, restricted Rajasthan to a total of 155, which felt slightly low given their strong start. The chase was far from easy for the home team. KKR lost both their openers for zero, including captain Ajinkya Rahane, who struggled to find his form.
At one point, the team was reeling at 70 for 5, and it looked like another loss was on the horizon. But Rinku Singh stepped up when it mattered most, building a crucial partnership with Anukul Roy. Rinku hit five boundaries and two sixes, keeping his head cool even as the required run rate climbed.
In the end, his powerful hitting ensured that the Knights crossed the finish line, giving the Kolkata crowd a reason to celebrate after a long month of disappointment.
