Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) suspended his daughter and BRS legislator K. Kavitha from the party for her “anti-party activities”, a day after her open outbursts against party leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao.
The two leaders, relatives of Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao (who is also known as KCR), are considered close to the party chief. Mr. Harish Rao has been associated with the party since its inception and is not only KCR’s trusted lieutenant, but is also known as a troubleshooter, with a wide following of his own across the State and all sections of the party and its support base.
BRS general secretaries T. Ravinder Rao and S. Bharath Kumar issued a brief statement on Ms. Kavitha’s suspension, reportedly on KCR’s instructions. “The attitude of the party MLC K. Kavitha in the recent times and her anti-party activities have been causing damage to the party and the party leadership has taken the matter seriously,” it said.
‘No one is bigger than the party’
According to sources in Ms. Kavitha’s camp, she is soon expected to take a call on whether or not to continue her membership in the Legislative Council. She was a member of the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019 and an MLC from October 2020 to January 2022. She was re-elected to the Council in 2022, and her term lasts till January 2028.
Reacting to her suspension from the party, BRS legislators K.P. Vivekanand and P. Rajeshwar Reddy, who enjoy good equations with party working president K.T. Rama Rao and KCR respectively, said that the tough decision was an indication from the party leadership that nobody can be bigger than the party.
Speaking separately, they said that Ms. Kavitha’s actions had triggered confusion among party leaders and workers and damaged the party. They pointed to KCR’s repeated statements that the BRS is a family of 60 lakh leaders and cadre, and that even family members would not be spared if they committed any wrong.
