Royal Challengers Bengaluru created history on Thursday night, chasing down a massive target of 204 runs to defeat the Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the Women’s Premier League final at the BCA Stadium.
This victory marks RCB’s second WPL title, adding to their maiden win in 2024. For the Delhi Capitals, the result extended a painful streak, as they finished as runners-up for the fourth year in a row.
The match was defined by a spectacular batting performance from the RCB openers. Chasing a daunting 204 for victory, captain Smriti Mandhana and Australian batter Georgia Voll took control of the game immediately.
The duo shared a match winning partnership of 165 runs, dismantling the Delhi bowling attack. Mandhana scored a captain’s knock of 87 off 41 balls, while Voll contributed a crucial 79 off 54 balls. Their aggressive batting ensured that RCB stayed ahead of the required run rate throughout the innings.
Although both openers fell late in the game, the middle order held their nerves. RCB crossed the finish line with two balls to spare, sparking wild celebrations in the stands.
Earlier in the evening, the Delhi Capitals displayed excellent form. Batting first, they posted a formidable total of 203/4. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues led from the front with a half-century (57), supported by quick scoring from the lower order.
Despite the high score, the Capitals could not stop the RCB in the second innings.
Speaking at the post presentation ceremony, a jubilant Smriti Mandhana praised her team’s fighting spirit.
“We knew 200 was a tough score, but the pitch was good for batting,” Mandhana said. “Me and Georgia just wanted to keep it simple. This second title is for our amazing fans.”
On the other side, a disappointed Jemimah Rodrigues acknowledged the superior batting of the opposition.
“It is hard to take, losing four finals,” Rodrigues said. “We put enough runs on the board, but Smriti and Georgia took the game away from us completely.”
With this win, RCB has cemented its status as one of the most dominant teams in the league, while Delhi continues its search for a maiden trophy
