BJP National General Secretary B. L. Santhosh, along with Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, arrived in Manipur on Wednesday and held a crucial meeting with BJP MLAs at the party’s state headquarters in Imphal. The meeting was presided over by State President A. Sarda Devi. The closed-door session was attended by BJP MLAs from both the hills and the valley, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba. However, MLAs from the Kuki community were notably absent.
According to sources, the BJP central leaders are also scheduled to meet Kuki MLAs in Churachandpur during their three-day visit to Manipur.
Following the meeting with state MLAs, B. L. Santhosh and Sambit Patra attended a programme commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
Santhosh shared details of the day’s engagements on Facebook, stating, “Addressed MLAs meeting and party office bearers meeting of BJP Manipur at state office, Imphal. State president Sharada Devi, North East Coordinator Dr. Sampit Patra, MP and all senior leaders were present.”
Speaking to the media, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh described the meeting with BJP central leaders as “very positive,” saying that the formation of a popular government in Manipur is likely soon. He noted that the purpose of the visit was to review the current situation in the state.
“They have noted down all the reports we presented, including the problems faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs). We also had a threadbare discussion on the formation of a popular government, and it was very positive,” Singh said.
MLA Dr. Sapam Ranjan shared that the meeting primarily focused on strengthening the party in Manipur.
Meanwhile, MLA T. Robindro Singh said discussions centred on consolidating the organisation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He added that the National Secretary advised MLAs to actively engage with their constituencies, while central leaders assured that all necessary steps would be taken to form a strong government before the elections.
According to sources, Santhosh and Patra are also scheduled to meet legislators of the BJP’s alliance partners, including MLAs from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), on Wednesday evening
