PABITRA BANERJEE: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lost his cool during an address at an event in Bihar’s Patna on Sunday after a person in the audience remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not go anywhere. Responding to the remark from the stage at Bapu Sabhagar, Kharge said, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will go). The exchange took place during the 139th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Shri Krishna Singh, Bihar’s first Chief Minister. Tension briefly escalated inside the hall following the remark, with Congress workers reportedly confronting the individual who interrupted the speech before removing him from the venue. Continuing his address, Kharge subsequently launched an attack on Modi over his promise to bring back black money, accusing him of making unfulfilled commitments. “PM Modi has a habit of telling lies. He had said that he would bring back black money in his first 100 days. I want to ask, where is that money?” Kharge asked. He also sharply criticised the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying there would be no peace in the country as long as it persisted. “As long as the ideology of the RSS persists in this country, there will be no peace,” Kharge said, accusing the organisation of engaging in divisive activities since its inception. The Congress chief further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of capturing power through unfair means, asserting that state governments formed in several regions were stolen mandates. The remarks triggered a swift backlash from the ruling BJP, which condemned the comment as a breach of democratic decorum.
