At the invitation of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Government College, Rajarhat New Town, North 24 Parganas, Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya, Barrackpore visited the college campus on 21 September, 2026 to conduct a day-long programme on Mahatma Gandhi and India’s Freedom Movement, in collaboration with the college’s NSS Unit and Department of Political Science.
As per Sangrahalaya The programme commenced with their presentation of the special travelling exhibition, “Mohan to Mahatma”, based on the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi. The exhibition featured rare photographs and historical information from different phases of Gandhiji’s life, along with a replica of the Charkha, certified reproductions of Gandhiji’s handwritten letters, and replicas of several objects associated with his life and work. The students explored the exhibition with great interest and enthusiasm, gaining an opportunity to engage with Gandhiji’s life, philosophy and ideals.
The programme was followed by a special documentary on Barrackpore’s historic role in India’s freedom struggle and the journey towards Independence. The concluding session featured an engaging Spot Quiz, presented through an audio-visual exploration of Gandhiji’s life and work. The enthusiastic participation of the students made the session lively and interactive. The students who answered correctly were presented with commemorative medals from the Sangrahalaya.
By stepping beyond the walls of the museum and bringing history and heritage directly to students, the day became a memorable learning experience—where exhibitions, documentary, audio-visual presentation and interactive quiz transformed history into a vibrant and engaging journey.
For us, the opportunity to bring the life and ideals of Gandhiji closer to the younger generation is one of the most meaningful outcomes of this initiative.
As the students stood at the end of the “Mohan to Mahatma” exhibition, one thought remained deeply inspiring—the journey from Mohan to Mahatma does not end with the exhibition; it takes a new step forward in the hearts and minds of a new generation.
