Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Khalilur Rahman, arrived in New Delhi on April 7 for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.

This visit is significant as it is the first high-level visit by a Bangladeshi minister to India since the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took office in February 2026.

During his visit, Rahman is scheduled to hold important meetings with key Indian leaders, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He is also expected to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The discussions will focus on several key issues such as energy cooperation, trade, border management, visa services, and river water-sharing agreements between the two countries.

A major topic on the agenda is Bangladesh’s growing energy crisis, which has been affected by global supply disruptions. Both countries are expected to explore ways to enhance cooperation in fuel and energy supply.

The visit also comes at a time when India and Bangladesh are working to improve their relations after recent political changes in Dhaka. Officials from both sides hope that this visit will help strengthen diplomatic ties and promote regional stability.
