In a significant development in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, the Calcutta High Court has permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to re-interrogate the sole convict, Sanjay Roy. The decision was delivered by a division bench, which observed that the accused “may know more” about the crime and that further questioning could help uncover additional facts.

The case relates to the brutal rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College in August 2024. Although Roy has already been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, concerns have been raised about the possibility of a wider conspiracy and whether he acted alone.

The victim’s parents played a crucial role in pushing for further investigation. They submitted additional evidence, including an audio recording, and argued that the initial probe may have overlooked key aspects -suggesting the crime could involve more than one perpetrator.

Taking note of these concerns, the court has allowed the CBI to use modern investigative techniques and re-examine not just the convict but also other individuals if required. The bench also directed that all new evidence be handed r to the agency for detailed analysis.

The court has asked the CBI to continue its expanded probe and submit a report in the next hearing, scheduled for May. The order keeps the possibility of a larger conspiracy open, marking a fresh turn in the high-profile case
