In a significant development in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, the Calcutta High Court has permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to re-interrogate the sole convict, Sanjay Roy. The decision was delivered by a division bench, which observed that the accused “may know more” about the crime and that further questioning could help uncover additional facts.

Parents of the R G Kar Medical College rape and murder victim have gone to Delhi to demand justice for their daughter. She was a young doctor found dead in a seminar hall in August last year. The family believes more than one person was involved and wants a new charge sheet to include all suspects. They planned to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and the CBI Director to share their concerns.

A highly emotional mission to symbolically name a hitherto unnamed Himalayan peak in honour of the RG Kar doctor who was raped and killed in Kolkata last year is about to begin with a multidisciplinary team of mountaineers, scientists, and medical professionals travelling to the remote Tso-Moriri region in Ladakh’s Leh district.  

A special CBI court in Alipore has officially framed charges against Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and four others in a major corruption case. The charges, framed on July 14, include criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust, forgery, and corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court has scheduled the trial to begin on July 22, 2025.
