 Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping met in Taijin, Xhina at the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to discuss bilateral relations. This was PM Modi’s first visit to China in seven years.  

Both countries have discussed ways to dissolve the issues between them. After years of border tensions, India and China are finally talking to get their relationship back to normal. 

The two sought to improve bilateral relations, enhance cooperation and co-ordinate on shared interest and international matters. 

The border issues are a long term issue that both the nations want to resolve eagerly. Major dis- engagement has occurred and some stability has been established. During the meeting both leaders agreed on fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary questions guided by political and strategic direction. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India and China will soon hold another round of talks on border issues.  

The leaders renewed partnership, agreeing that India and China should be development partners and not rivals and that the differences between the countries should be celebrated rather than it becoming a dispute. The leaders notes the need to enhance people-to- people connection through measures like direct flights, facilitating visas and reactivation of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.  

There were discussion on the expansion of trade and investment and also coordinating in global issues like terrorism and trade.  

The leaders discussed common goals that is promoting multipolar world and pursue strategic autonomy. Both the leaders highlighted the necessity to expand common ground on global issues, including fair trade and addressing the global economic situation amid US tariffs.  

Ending the positive meeting, PM Modi has also invited President Xi to BRICS summit that will be hosted by India in 2026.
