The conflict in the Middle East reached a new peak of intensity on April 6, 2026, as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a massive wave of airstrikes across Lebanon. The operation, described by Israeli officials as a “broad-scale degradation” of Hezbollah’s capabilities, has left at least 15 people dead and more than 50 injured in a single 24-hour period, according to Lebanese health officials.The strikes centered on Beirut’s southern suburbs and residential neighborhoods, including Jnah and AinSaadeh, where the IDF claimed Hezbollah had embedded command centers and weapons caches. Thick plumes of smoke hung over the capital as residential buildings were reduced to rubble.
Over ten years after rockets struck a temporary press center in Homs, Syria, resulting in the deaths of two journalists and injuries to multiple others, French judges have made a significant decision. Seven European arrest warrants have been issued, including one for former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, charging high-ranking officials with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
India has taken its first step to reconnect with Syria’s new government, now led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former militant leader. This marks the first official visit by India since al-Sharaa came to power in December 2024, replacing Syria’s longtime president Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian government has begun withdrawing its military forces from the southern city of Suwayda following several days of intense and deadly clashes between Druze fighters and government troops.
