The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially clarified that an Indian passport is strictly a travel document and cannot be treated as conclusive proof of citizenship. Senior ministry officials delivered this crucial statement in New Delhi on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, during a press briefing held on the occasion of the 14th Passport Seva Divas.
