Punjab Police have officially confirmed that a pro-Khalistani module, operating with support from across the border, was responsible for the low-intensity blast that occurred in Patiala earlier this week. Following a rapid investigation, the Counter Intelligence wing arrested three individuals on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The suspects are allegedly linked to a banned extremist group and were acting on instructions from handlers based in Europe and North America to create a “climate of fear” in the state.
The investigation revealed that the module was using high-tech encrypted messaging apps to receive blueprints for the explosive device. Police recovered a cache of illegal weapons, including a foreign-made pistol and several rounds of live ammunition, from a hideout near the Patiala-Sangrur highway. According to senior officials, the motive behind the blast was to disturb the communal harmony of Punjab and gain international attention for their separatist cause. The suspects were also reportedly planning similar small-scale attacks in other crowded markets across the Malwa region.
The Director General of Punjab Police stated that the module was being funded through illegal channels involving hawala transactions. The police are now working with central agencies to trace the financial trail and identify the local contacts who provided logistical support to the group. Security has been tightened across all major cities in Punjab, and the public has been urged to remain vigilant. With the arrests made today, the police believe they have successfully neutralized a significant threat before it could carry out further disruptions.
