Pabitra Banerjee : Pitching a transformative global governance framework at the Bloomberg Economic Forum in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared India as the “mother of democracy,” emphasizing a strategic shift away from traditional state control toward a human-centric model defined by the “power to empower”.
Highlighting the country’s vast pluralistic and communication landscape, the Prime Minister noted that India supports over 100 languages, roughly 80,000 registered newspapers and publications, and more than 1,000 satellite television channels. Pointing to the modern digital age, he added that the nation’s democratic footprint extends across massive virtual platforms, housing over 500 million YouTube users and more than 500 million Instagram users. “In our country, people openly debate different issues and discuss different perspectives. And in the present era, one of the major forces that has played a significant role in this has been digital power,” Modi underscored.
Addressing global delegates and industry captains, the Prime Minister emphasized that modern capability must be measured by how ethically and inclusively it is used to elevate citizens. Grounding this philosophy in domestic progress—including lifting 25 crore people out of poverty and expanding a network of over 2,50,000 startups—PM Modi reiterated that India’s digital democratization will continue to serve as a steady pillar of global stability and collaborative growth.
