Parents of the R G Kar Medical College rape and murder victim have gone to Delhi to demand justice for their daughter. She was a young doctor found dead in a seminar hall in August last year. The family believes more than one person was involved and wants a new charge sheet to include all suspects. They planned to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and the CBI Director to share their concerns.
In Delhi, the parents met CBI Director Praveen Sood and senior officers. The officers promised to help, but the parents were not satisfied. They said the CBI is only repeating what Kolkata Police said earlier and is not doing a full investigation. They believe important forensic reports have not been examined properly. The father also questioned why his daughter’s body was cremated so quickly, saying this may have destroyed important proof.
The parents could not meet Amit Shah as he was busy. Officials asked them to wait a few days, but they returned to Kolkata. The father called the CBI “compromised” and said their responses were “bogus and ridiculous.” He also said it is not the family’s job to find evidence.
Their visit comes just before the first anniversary of the crime. From August 8 to 15, protests will take place across West Bengal. On August 9, the family is planning a march to the state secretariat called “Nabanna Abhijan.” They have invited all political parties except the ruling TMC and have asked that no party flags be used.
Last year, the Calcutta High Court gave the case to the CBI after strong protests by doctors and students. One man, civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, has been sentenced to life in prison. The parents believe he could not have done it alone and that a bigger conspiracy is still hidden.
For the family, this is not only about punishment. They want the truth and want people to trust the system again. Even after one year, they are still waiting for clear answers and real justice for their daughter.
