A delegation from Nepal’s ruling party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by party chairman Rabi Lamichhane, visited the headquarters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi on June 1-2, 2026. The visit took place at the invitation of BJP president Nitin Nabin and was aimed at strengthening party-to-party engagement between the two neighboring countries.
During the visit, Lamichhane and other RSP representatives held discussions with senior BJP leaders on democratic governance, organizational practices, and people-centric political outreach. Both sides described the interaction as constructive and meaningful, emphasizing the importance of closer political dialogue between India and Nepal
The visit comes at a sensitive time in India-Nepal relations, as recent remarks by Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah regarding territorial issues sparked debate in both countries. While India welcomed the RSP delegation, New Delhi reiterated its long-standing position that border disputes should be resolved bilaterally and without thir party mediation.
Political observers view the visit as an effort to Establish a regular communication channel between the BJP and Nepal’s governing party. The BJP stated that such exchanges can help deepen mutual understanding and strengthen the broader India-Nepal Partnership.
