Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up to embark on his longest foreign expedition in a decade. The eight day long tour will begin on the 2nd of July and cover 5 countries, optimising the PM’s principal agenda— attending the 17th BRICS summit in Brazil. PM Modi will cover 2 continents and visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia in that order. The Prime Minister’s itenery is packed with ideas to strengthen India’s ties with the Global South. 

The journey begins with Ghana, making it the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 30 years. PM Modi will engage the Ghanian president in talks and lay the foundation for better economic and defense ties between the nations. He will work actively to consolidate India’s relations with ECOWAS and the African Union.  

The Prime Minister will then make a pit stop at Trinidad and Tobago. He is scheduled to address a joint session of the island nation’s esteemed parliament. He will be joined by the President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago in his endeavours. 

The third country on the list happens to be Argentina where President Javier Milei has invited PM Modi to discuss defense, trade, and energy cooperation.  

The centerpiece is Brazil, PM Modi will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The key goal of the summit will be to balance global governance reforms and denounce terrorism, especially after the devastating Pahalgam terror attack. According to the MEA, the PM will be chairing several bilateral discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and arrange for broader cooperation within two nations united by mutual goals. This visit will mark PM Modi’s 4th visit to the country of Brazil. 

The final stop before he makes his way back home will take the Prime Minister to Namibia on his 1st and India’s 3rd prime ministerial visit in 27 years. He will address the Namibian Parliament and sign  agreements to enhance fields like trade, agriculture, defence and security.  

This tour is the second of it’s kind adding a feather to the PM Modi’s hat. He had previously embarked on a similar tour when he visited the US, Mexico, Switzerland, Afghanistan, and Qatar in a span of 8 days in 2016.
