Quoting a recent report of internationally acclaimed Human Rights Watch, West Bengal chief minister slammed BJP-led Centre for harassment of Bengalis tagging them with Bangladeshis. She referred the HRW findings in her X handle post reports of harassment of Bengalis in Haryana.
The HRW in its report accused the BJP government of targetting Muslims for political purposes and unlawfully deporting hundreds of Bengali Muslims to Bangladesh after labelling them as illegal immigrants. HRW’s Asia wing director, Elaine Pearson stated :” India’s ruling BJP is fuelling discrimination by arbitarily ecpelling Bengali Muslims from the country, including Indian citizens ‘
Quoting this report, West Bengal chief minister said that this is being done systematically in the BJP-ruled states of Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Delhi, following a directive by Ministry of Home. Shame, she added that now even international human rights organisations have started taking note of the linguistic terrorism unleashed in India.
Citing a report from Border Guard, Bangladesh the HRW claimed that at least 1500 Muslim men, women and children were deported to Bangladesh between May 7 and June 15. Among them were at 100 Rohungya refugees from Myanmar.
In her X handle post, Banerjee said ” The internationally reputed New York-based NGO Human Rights Watch has also highlighted the issue of harassment, persecution and illegal deportation of Bengali-spraking people of India by the BJP governments in various states.” Her strong reaction came after report of harassment of 52 migrant labour in Haryana surfaced.
Meanwhile, Nadia police have confirmed the release of detained migrant workers in Haryana after verifying their identity. Bengal police have launched a Whatsapp helpline(9147727666) for Bengali speaking migrant labour who face harassment outside the state.
BJP spokesman, Amit Malavya have accused Mamata Banerjee of playing into the hands of George Soros. Soros is a anti-India millionaire who reportedly funds HDW.
Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini have accused his West Bengal counterpart Banerjee of protecting infiltrators. Accusing Banerjee of fanning appeasement and vote bank politics, he said in social media that she is stooping low to compromise the country’s security.Â
