In a major anti-narcotics operation, police of Kaliachak Police Station seized 14,070 bottles of banned cough syrup from the Bakharpur area under Kaliachak police station limits and arrested two persons in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the raid was conducted following a tip-off about illegal storage and trafficking of prohibited cough syrup in the area. During the operation, officers recovered the huge consignment from a vehicle and a nearby storage point. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to determine the source and destination of the consignment. Investigators suspect the cough syrup was meant for illegal trafficking through interstate and border smuggling routes.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and launched a detailed investigation to identify other members of the alleged racket. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the suppliers and buyers connected to the network. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the illegal trade of narcotic substances in Malda, particularly in the Kaliachak region, which has witnessed several similar seizures in recent years.
