External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with the President of the United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock during her official visit to India, with discussions centering on global challenges, multilateral cooperation, and reforms of international institutions.The meeting took place in New Delhi as part of Baerbock’s two-day visit aimed at strengthening engagement between India and the United Nations General Assembly.During the talks, both leaders emphasized the urgent need to reinforce multilateralism at a time when global institutions are facing increasing strain. Baerbock highlighted that the rules-based international order and global cooperation mechanisms are under pressure due to ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions.

A key focus of the discussion was the need for reformed multilateralism, with India reiterating its long-standing position that global institutions must better reflect present-day realities, especially the aspirations of the Global South.The two sides also exchanged views on pressing international issues, including developments in West Asia, the role of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Jaishankar underlined India’s commitment to playing a constructive role on global platforms, while Baerbock described India as a crucial partner in addressing worldwide challenges.As part of her visit, Baerbock also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, symbolizing the shared values of peace and cooperation.The visit is seen as a significant step in enhancing India,UN engagement at a time of evolving global dynamics and growing calls for reform in international governance structures.
