East Bengal FC is standing on the brink of history as they prepare for a photo-finish that could see them crowned champions of the Indian Super League. Following a dramatic 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium, the Red-and-Gold Brigade have maintained their position at the very top of the league standings. With the season reaching its absolute climax, the team’s fate rests entirely in their own hands heading into the final matchday of the championship.

The path to the title has become incredibly tight, with a rare five-horse race developing at the summit of the table. Currently, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Bengaluru FC are all locked together at 23 points, while Punjab FC and Mumbai City FC are breathing down their necks with 22 points each. However, East Bengal holds a massive advantage because of their superior goal difference of plus-18, compared to Mohun Bagan’s plus-13. Because Bengaluru FC has already completed all of their scheduled matches for the season, they are officially out of running for the top spot, leaving the door wide open for the Kolkata giants.

To secure their first-ever ISL League Winners Shield, East Bengal simply needs to defeat Inter Kashi in their final league match of the season. A victory will seal the crown, provided Mohun Bagan does not pull off an unrealistically massive goal scoring spree against Sporting Club Delhi to overtake the current goal difference equation. As fans hold their breath for the final round of matches, the club is aiming to cap off a brilliant sporting month, which already saw their women’s team lift the national Indian Women’s League trophy just days ago.
