A satirical online movement called the “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) has rapidly become one of India’s biggest viral political trends, drawing millions of young followers across social media platforms. The movement began after controversial remarks allegedly comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches” during a Supreme Court hearing triggered widespread outrage online.

The party was launched by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communication strategist and Boston University graduate. What started as a joke on social media soon transformed into a large-scale digital protest led mainly by Gen Z users frustrated with unemployment, inflation, examination paper leaks, and political dissatisfaction.

The Cockroach Janta Party describes itself as a movement “for the lazy and unemployed youth.” Its slogan – “Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy” – quickly became viral online. Through memes, parody posters, videos, and humorous manifestos, the movement has used sati 1 liscuss serious social and political concerns.

Within just a few days of its launch, the party’s Instagram account reportedly crossed millions of followers, overtaking several mainstream political parties online. However, its X (formerly Twitter) account was later withheld in India following what the platform described as a “legal demand,” sparking debates around censorship and freedom of expression.

Political observers say the popularity of the movement reflects growing frustration among India’s youth over lack of jobs, rising living costs, and distrust in institutions. Reuters reported that nearly 70 percent of the party’s followers belong to the 19-25 age group.

The movement has also triggered wider discussions about the changing nature of political protest in India. Analysts note that unlike traditional protests involving rallies and marches, Gen Z increasingly uses memes, hashtags, and online satire to express dissent.

Several media reports have described the Cockroach Janta Party as more than just an internet joke. While it remains an unofficial satirical campaign, its rapid rise has highlighted the anger and anxieties of a generation struggling with unemployment and uncertainty.
