West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he should not always place his trust in Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Speaking on a range of issues, including the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State, Ms. Banerjee alleged that Mr. Shah was “behaving like an acting Prime Minister
“This is all Amit Shah’s game. He behaves like he is the acting Prime Minister of the country. The Prime Minister knows everything. We can request the Prime Minister not to trust Amit Shah always. One day he will become your Mir Jafar [traitor],” Ms. Banerjee told mediapersons on her return from North Bengal.
The Trinamool Congress chairperson has often in the past targeted Mr. Shah, accusing him of taking key decisions on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Ms. Banerjee also warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against arrogance. “Horrible behaviour of a horrible government. I have seen so many governments, not one was so arrogant and dictatorial. Their leader comes here and says we will exclude so many lakh voters from Bengal,” she said.
Raising concerns over the ongoing SIR process, she questioned its feasibility. “Tell me, amidst natural calamity, rainy season, how can the SIR process be completed in 15 days?” the Chief Minister asked.
The Chief Minister further expressed displeasure over the cancellation of the inauguration of a Birla Opus paint factory scheduled for Thursday (October 9, 2025) near Kharagpur. She said she had come down from the Darjeeling hills to inaugurate the facility.
“Yesterday, I told reporters that I was supposed to inaugurate the Birla Opus factory on Thursday. The factory is ready. After half an hour, a message came. It said that I am unwell. I apologise for the sudden cancellation of the event. I don’t want to blame the Birla family. I think this is the work of a high-loaded virus. It is threatening everyone,” Ms. Banerjee said.cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he should not always place his trust in Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
