Hundreds of students in Ranchi, Jharkhand, are protesting for weeks against irregularities in several government examinations. The protest started on July 29.
The protesters have raised concerns about the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination, the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) Examination, and other recruitment tests.
They believe the exams were not conducted fairly and demand strict action from the government.
The students are holding an indefinite sit-in protest, they are planning to continue this till their demands are addressed. Some students are also holding hunger sticks to put more pressure on the authorities and chanting slogans like “Long live students” and “Shame on Hemant Soren”
According to the sources the controversy began after the results of 14th JPSC Preliminary Test were released on July 2. Since then, students have shown disappointment and organized several activities to draw attention towards them.
The results of the 14th Preliminary Test (PT) were declared on the 2nd of last month, exactly a month ago today, marking the start of this controversy. We launched this agitation on July 5, met the Governor on July 7, and staged an effigy-burning protest on July 8. We met the Chief Minister on July 20 and submitted evidence as well,” ~ Devendra Nath Mahato (student leader in protest)
Students addressed that several examinations have been affected because of paper leaks, unfair practices and administrative practices. They believe these programs have reduced the transparency of fair examinations. Many aspirants feel their hard work has been waited before of unfair practices.
Instead of taking action only in individual cases, the students are demanding long-term reforms. They want recruitment agencies to become more transparent, accountable, and efficient so that future examinations are conducted fairly. They believe these changes are necessary to restore the confidence of students and job seekers.
In conclusion, Ranchi student’s protest reflects the demand for fairness, transparency and accountability in examinations. The students have highlighted concerns about the future about the thousands of aspirants.
