Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missile and drone strikes targeting United States military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington. Iranian officials described the operation as a direct response to recent US airstrikes on Iranian military sites, warning that any further aggression would be met with stronger retaliation.
According to Iranian state media, the strikes targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and military facilities linked to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Air defence systems in both countries were activated, intercepting several incoming missiles and drones. Authorities in Kuwait and Bahrain reported no immediate casualties, although limited damage was reported near military installations.
The United States condemned the attacks, calling them a dangerous escalation that threatens regional peace and stability. Washington reaffirmed its commitment to defending its forces and allies in the Middle East, while US officials stated that all necessary measures would be taken to protect American personnel and interests.
The latest strikes come after the US carried out attacks on Iranian military infrastructure, saying the operations were aimed at deterring threats to regional security and international shipping. Iran, however, accused the United States of violating its sovereignty and vowed to continue responding to any military action against the country.
The exchange has intensified concerns over the possibility of a broader regional conflict involving Gulf nations and US allies. Security analysts warn that continued hostilities could disrupt maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies, while increasing instability across the Middle East.
The international community has urged both sides to exercise restraint and return to diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and protect regional security.
