New Delhi, June 14: In a significant development that could deepen the ongoing crisis within the
Trinamool Congress (TMC), a dissident faction of the party has announced plans to meet Lok
Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday to seek official recognition as a separate parliamentary
group. The rebel camp, led by senior party leaders dissatisfied with the current leadership,
claims to have the support of a substantial number of TMC Members of Parliament. The group
argues that it represents the true voice of the party’s elected representatives and deserves
separate recognition in the Lok Sabha.

Sources indicate that the dissident MPs will submit a memorandum to the Speaker outlining their case and requesting recognition under parliamentary rules. The move comes amid growing tensions within the Trinamool Congress, with disagreements over leadership decisions and the party’s political strategy. The leadership of Mamata Banerjee has strongly opposed the rebellion, describing it as an attempt to weaken the party. Senior TMC leaders have maintained that the party remains united and that disciplinary action may be taken against members engaging in anti-party activities.

Political analysts believe the Speaker’s decision could have far-reaching implications
for the party’s strength in Parliament and the broader political landscape. The development is
being closely watched by both the ruling alliance and opposition parties as it unfolds. The
meeting scheduled for Monday is expected to be a crucial step in determining the future course
of the rebellion and its impact on the Trinamool Congress.
