In a significant political development in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has resigned from his post, clearing the path for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to take over the state’s top position. The leadership transition comes after weeks of speculation and internal discussions within the Congress party regarding a change in leadership.

Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation following consultations with the Congress high command in New Delhi. The move is being seen as part of a planned power-sharing arrangement within the party leadership. With the resignation now accepted, the state cabinet has effectively been dissolved, paving the way for the formation of a new government under Shivakumar.

The Congress Legislature Party is expected to meet soon to formally elect D.K. Shivakumar as its new leader. Senior party figures have indicated that the transition has the full backing of the party’s central leadership. Shivakumar, one of the Congress party’s most influential leaders in Karnataka, is widely credited for strengthening the party’s organisational structure and playing a key role in its electoral success in the state.

In his remarks after resigning, Siddaramaiah stated that he respected the decision of the party leadership and would continue to remain active in Karnataka politics. He also highlighted the welfare schemes and development initiatives undertaken during his tenure, describing social justice and inclusive governance as the key priorities of his administration.

Meanwhile, D.K. Shivakumar expressed gratitude towards Siddaramaiah, calling him a senior leader and mentor. Emotional scenes were witnessed outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru as supporters of both leaders gathered during the transition process.

The leadership change is expected to reshape Karnataka’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests. Political observers believe the Congress hopes the transition will strengthen party unity and improve its prospects in upcoming elections.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister is expected to take place in the coming days after the formal legislative process is completed.
