New Delhi: To Lam is set to visit India from May 5 to May 7, 2026, in a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. This will be his first official visit to India after assuming office in April 2026, and it is expected to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership shared by both nations.
President To Lam will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior government officials, and business leaders. During his stay, he is scheduled to hold extensive talks with Narendra Modi and meet Droupadi Murmu. The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of areas, including defence cooperation, trade and investment, digital connectivity, and regional security.
A key highlight of the visit is likely to be the growing defence partnership between India and Vietnam. Reports suggest that both sides may discuss a potential deal involving the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system, which could significantly enhance Vietnam’s maritime defence capabilities. Such cooperation reflects the increasing strategic alignment between the two countries, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
The visit also comes at an important time, as India and Vietnam mark ten years of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over the past decade, ties have expanded across multiple sectors, including economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and capacity building.
In addition to official engagements in New Delhi, President To Lam is expected to visit culturally significant locations such as Bodh Gaya, highlighting the shared Buddhist heritage between the two nations, as well as Mumbai, India’s financial hub, to promote economic collaboration.
