In a significant development Telengana and Andhra Pradesh reached several crucial agreement towards solving long-standing interstate water disputes, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana reached a series of key agreements during a high level meeting convened by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
One of the major outcomes was Andhra Pradesh’s acceptance of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s proposal to execute telemetry systems across all crucial water projects . The introduction of this technology is expected to improve transparency and make sure accurate measurement of water usage across both states.
The two states also achieved agreement on the allocation of river management board offices. As per the agreement, the Godavari River Management Board will be headquartered in Hyderabad, while the other management board of Krishna River will be based in Andhra Pradesh. This move is considered a important step in institutionalising water-sharing mechanisms and overcoming hurdles.
In another vital development, Andhra Pradesh gave its agreement to Telangana’s request to undertake immediate repair work on the Srisailam project one of the most key shared assets for hydroelectric power and irrigation between the two states.
Both sides have agreed to form a committee within a week to solve all outstanding issues. This committee, comprising senior officers and technical experts from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will examine all outstanding issues, particularly those concerning ongoing and proposed water projects in the Krishna and Godavari river basins.
The meeting was described as cordial and constructive, with both governments reaffirming their commitment to resolving inter-state water issues through mutual dialogue and cooperation.
