Malda: Tensions escalated in the Mothabari area of Malda district ahead of the upcoming West Bengal elections, as protests broke out over voter list revisions.
A group of protesters surrounded seven election observers, including judicial magistrates, for several hours. The demonstrators demanded the inclusion of names that were allegedly deleted from the voter lists under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The situation turned tense as some vehicles were damaged during the protest. Central and state police forces were deployed to control the situation and safely rescue the officials from the area.
Meanwhile, Union Minister and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), blaming them for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
