Amid deadlock in seat-sharing talks between DMK and Congress, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai met Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin at his residence on Tuesday in an attempt to end the impasse. DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi was also present at the meeting.

During a public meeting in Kamuthi on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, her aide V.K. Sasikala announced her decision to launch a political party. She unveiled the party’s flag — featuring black, white, and red — which carries the portraits of former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai, M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), and Jayalalithaa.

A day after inducting the PMK into the alliance, the seat-sharing talks in the NDA seems to have hit a roadblock. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s visit to Delhi to call on the top BJP leaders has turned into a damp squib. BJP’s demand for 56 seats out of the total 234 constituencies and share in power seems to have irked the AIADMK camp.

Tamil Nadu Congress Legislative Party Leader and Killiyoor MLA S. Rajeshkumar has said the party’s MLAs and functionaries would urge the All India Congress Committee leadership to push for a coalition government in Tamil Nadu and seek more seats as a part of the DMK alliance in the 2026 Assembly election. In 2021, the party was allotted 25 seats in the DMK-led alliance.

Tamil superstar who recently turned politician Vijay has officially started his political journey by kicking off his campaign with a strong message aimed at the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and BJP at the centre. His entry into politics is to be closely watched and his first campaign speech showed that he is ready to take on both state and national parties .

Kamal Haasan, the actor-politician and founder of the Makkal Neethi Maiya (MNM) party, is set to enter the Rajya Sabha in the biennial elections to the Upper House from Tamil Nadu slated for June 19 with the backing of the ruling DMK here. 

The Election Commission had on May 26 announced the poll schedule for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha — two seats from Assam and six seats from Tamil Nadu that fall vacant on June 14 and July 24, respectively.
