With the Rajya Sabha also clearing the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill on Thursday (December 18, 2025), the Union Government said the Bill seeks to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and increase the capacity of India’s atomic energy sector.
“Parliament is not a place for drama; it is a place for delivery,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday in his customary remarks ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament. “For some time now, our Parliament is being used either as a warm-up arena for elections or as an outlet for frustration after defeat,” Mr. Modi went on to allege, referring to the Opposition.
The Law Ministry of India recently rejected the proposal to introduce staggered terms for Rajya Sabha members from Jammu and Kashmir. This decision has sparked discussion in political and legal circles as many were expecting changes after the re-organisation of the former state .
Twelve bills were passed by the Lok Sabha and 14 by the Rajya Sabha during the month-long monsoon session of Parliament, which has witnessed repeated disruptions, adjournments and walkouts. Barring discussions on Operation Sindoor in both Houses, the session has seen little business ever since it began on July 21, 2025 due to repeated disruptions and adjournments initially due to opposition demand for discussion on Operation Sindoor and then over demands for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar.
The Parliament panel report on new Income Tax Bill, 2025, which would replace the six-decade old Income Tax Act, is scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
