With Statehood status not in sight, the J&K Assembly on Monday (March 30, 2026) began voting on around 33 private members’ Bills, including those on the protection of land, regularisation of jobs, and the return of Pandits. However, three Bills submitted by Opposition parties already failed to pass the floor test.
The authorities on Sunday (July 13, 2025) detained the leaders of several regional parties, including ruling National Conference (NC) and Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop them from visiting the graveyard of deceased 22 civilians who died during an uprising against the Dogra king in 1931 on this day.
