Leading in eight of 12 Zilla Parishad and 51 of 125 panchayat samiti polls, BJP continues to be the largest party in Maharashtra, showing clearly that the party is not just an urban phenomenon, but also as strong in rural Maharashtra. BJP has made inroads into western Maharashtra in regions like Satara and Solapur, and performed reasonably well in Kolhapur at the cost of weakened NCP and Congress.
Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has raised concerns that state’s popular women welfare program, Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin is affecting the funding of other important government schemes. Speaking to reporters Bhujbal said that the Ladki Bahin scheme aims to support women financially but it is putting heavy pressure on the state’s budget.
A law is soon to be implemented amid the rising beef smuggling case in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government will soon bring a law to curb this beef smuggling cases. Minister of State, Home (Rural) Pankaj Bhoyar said, the repeat offender will be slapped with the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
