Hours after a radical group in Dhaka announced a march to the Indian High Commission on Wednesday (December 17, 2025) afternoon, to protest India’s alleged interference in Bangladeshi politics, the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi summoned the High Commissioner of Bangladesh Riaz Hamidullah and reminded him about his government’s responsibility to ensure the security and safety of India’s mission and visa facilities in Bangladesh.

In preparation for the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections scheduled for February next year, Bangladesh’s top elections body plans to announce its action plan this week. Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed from the Election Commission said on Monday that a draft of the election roadmap is ready and just needs final approval.

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal or the ICT has formally indicted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of mass murder and crimes against humanity. The charges are based on her alleged role in orchestrating a violent suppression on students in the student led protests between July and August of 2024 resulting in around 1,400 deaths (including students, police and common peopl), according to a UN human rights report.

Ripples of discontent have spread across Bangladesh as the country grapples with deepening distrust in the civil administration. the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has seen protests rise across countless administration offices like the Bangladesh Secretariat and the country’s National Board of Revenue (NBR), as civil servants and business leaders oppose proposed reforms and policies.
