The escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict and Tehran’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz are likely to push Indian refiners to further ramp up oil purchases from non-West Asian suppliers — mainly Russia, West Africa, the US and Latin America — as shipping routes to Indian ports from these suppliers are detached from the critical choke point in the Persian Gulf, according to industry sources and experts.

Pakistan is set to chair the 1988 United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Sanctions Committee on the Taliban till 31 December, 2025, while also serving as one of the vice-chairs of the Counter-Terrorism Committee. The Security Council makes these appointments based on a consensus among current member-states.

A US federal court has struck down President Donald Trump’s expansive tariff regime, dealing a serious setback to one of the president’s central economic strategies. 

The Court of International Trade in Manhattan ruled that the White House overstepped its legal authority by unilaterally imposing tariffs on a broad range of countries under the guise of a national emergency, reports BBC and other international media.
