The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended Rakesh Kishore, a 71-year-old lawyer, from practicing law after he reportedly threw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai within the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice of India has raised concerns about the possibility of an elected state government being at the “whims and fancies” of the Governor, specially in relation to the Governor’s power to withhold assent to bills passed by the State legislature.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R. Gavai recently highlighted that the CJI is not superior to other Supreme Court judges; he is just the “first among equals.”
