Newly elected Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday won the floor test in the Legislative Assembly with 144 votes in favor.
The AIADMK is learnt to have sent feelers to the DMK seeking support to form a government in Tamil Nadu where the elections resulted in a hung Assembly. The DMK leadership, however, gave short shrift to the proposal, sources said. The DMK “was firm on sitting in the Opposition”, as it was not interested in going against the people’s mandate.
During a public meeting in Kamuthi on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, her aide V.K. Sasikala announced her decision to launch a political party. She unveiled the party’s flag — featuring black, white, and red — which carries the portraits of former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai, M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), and Jayalalithaa.
A day after inducting the PMK into the alliance, the seat-sharing talks in the NDA seems to have hit a roadblock. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s visit to Delhi to call on the top BJP leaders has turned into a damp squib. BJP’s demand for 56 seats out of the total 234 constituencies and share in power seems to have irked the AIADMK camp.
The former interim general secretary of the AIADMK (who was sacked earlier on) Sasikala gave yet another call to unity in the party before the state of Tamil Nadu goes into the pending elections.
In Tamil Nadu’s political theatre, a familiar drama is playing out again. The AIADMKBJP alliance, once seen as carefully balanced, is now wobbling under the weight of suspicion, bruised egos, and Delhi’s long reach.
