The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has appointed retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ram Temple Trust in Ayodhya. The appointment marks a major change in the administrative structure of the trust and comes at a time when the management of the temple and its growing operations are receiving increased attention.
Mishra, who retired from the Indian Air Force earlier this year, brings nearly four decades of military experience to his new responsibility. He served in several important positions during his career and was the chief of the IAF’s Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. His experience in leadership, administration and strategic planning is expected to help strengthen the management of the temple trust.
The decision to create and fill the CEO position follows an extensive selection process. According to reports, the search committee received 5,585 applications for the post before narrowing the list down to a few candidates. Mishra was eventually selected following a detailed evaluation process.
The appointment also comes amid concerns over the management of donations and allegations of financial irregularities involving the temple. Reports said a recent donation theft controversy led to arrests and increased focus on strengthening administrative and financial oversight within the trust. The new CEO is expected to play an important role in improving transparency, accountability and the overall functioning of the organisation.
Mishra’s responsibilities are expected to extend beyond routine administration. He will be involved in planning for the temple’s long-term development, management of donations, coordination of different departments and improvement of facilities for devotees. With Ayodhya attracting large numbers of pilgrims, efficient crowd management, security coordination and visitor facilities are likely to remain important priorities.
The trust has also approved the appointment of three new members as part of the administrative restructuring. The new trustees include Mahesh Bhagchandka, Madan Mohan Pandey and Nirmala Yadav. Nirmala Yadav’s appointment is notable as she becomes the first woman member of the trust.
The trust has indicated that the CEO will function independently and report to its General Secretary rather than operate under direct government control. This structure is intended to bring greater professionalism to the administration of the temple and its expanding operations.
Mishra’s transition from the Indian Air Force to the administration of one of India’s most prominent religious sites has attracted considerable attention. His military background is expected to bring an emphasis on discipline, planning and institutional management.
