During his diplomatic visit to Rome, Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with a packet of India’s popular Melody toffees. The light-hearted gesture instantly exploded across social media, with users calling it the “ultimate Melodi crossover.”
In the viral clip shared by Meloni, she joked, “Prime Minister Modi brought a very, very good toffee,” while Modi replied with a smile, “Melody.” The video quickly gathered millions of views and sparked meme festivals across X, Instagram, and other platforms.
The “Melodi” trend originally became popular after the two leaders posted selfies together during international events like the G20 and COP28 summits. Their friendly public chemistry has since become a recurring meme theme online.
Several brands, including Blinkit, Air India, and food delivery companies, also joined the trend with humorous marketing posts. Reports even said searches for “Melody” and “Parle” surged online after the moment went viral.
Despite the memes, the visit also focused on serious diplomatic discussions involving trade, defence cooperation, and India-Italy strategic relations.
