PM Modi on Fuel Crisis: Calls for Conservation Amid Global Energy Pressure

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indians to reduce fuel consumption and adopt energy-saving habits amid rising global fuel supply concerns linked to tensions in West Asia and disruptions in international oil routes. In his recent address, Modi appealed to citizens to “make every effort to save fuel” and support the nation during the ongoing global energy crisis.

The Prime Minister advised people to work from home where possible, use public transport such as metro services, practice carpooling, and reduce unnecessary use of petrol and diesel vehicles. He also encouraged people to postpone non-essential foreign travel and avoid heavy purchases of imported goods like gold to help conserve India’s foreign exchange reserves.

The government clarified that there is no immediate fuel shortage in India and asked citizens not to panic. Officials from the Petroleum Ministry said the advisory is part of a long-term strategy to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and strengthen energy security. India currently imports a large share of its crude oil requirements, making it vulnerable to international disruptions and price spikes.

Modi also called for greater use of electric vehicles, solar-powered systems, and energy-efficient practices across homes, schools, and industries. Experts say these measures can reduce pressure on fuel imports while promoting sustainable development.

The appeal has triggered mixed reactions, with some praising it as a responsible step during uncertain times, while opposition leaders criticised it as evidence of poor energy planning.
