Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday began a major diplomatic tour covering the UAE and several European nations, including the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy. The six-day visit is expected to focus on strengthening India’s strategic partnerships in areas such as trade, energy security, defence cooperation, artificial intelligence and green technology. The tour comes at a crucial time as global tensions and uncertainty in energy markets continue to affect economies worldwide.
According to officials, one of the key priorities of the visit is securing long-term energy cooperation for India amid rising concerns over fuel supply disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. During his stop in the UAE, PM Modi is expected to discuss crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, along with investment opportunities and infrastructure cooperation. Experts believe the visit highlights India’s growing efforts to diversify energy partnerships and strengthen economic resilience.
After the UAE visit, PM Modi will travel to the Netherlands, where discussions are expected on semiconductors, clean energy, agriculture technology and water management. He is also scheduled to meet Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The visit aims to deepen India’s cooperation with European countries in innovation and sustainable development.
In Sweden, the Prime Minister will hold talks focused on artificial intelligence, defence collaboration and resilient supply chains. India and Sweden are likely to expand cooperation in green transition projects and emerging technologies. Modi will also participate in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Norway, where leaders are expected to discuss climate action, Arctic cooperation and digital innovation.
The final leg of the tour will take place in Italy, where talks are expected on trade, manufacturing investments and broader India-Europe relations. Officials say the visit reflects India’s increasing engagement with Europe at a time of shifting geopolitical and economic realities.
The multi-nation tour is being seen as an important diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships and enhancing cooperation in key strategic sectors.
