Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on the phone on Saturday, September 6, 2025. They positively reviewed the India-France strategic partnership. The leaders talked about ongoing efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict. Mr. Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution and the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
On social media, Mr. Modi mentioned that the India-France Strategic Partnership will remain crucial for promoting global peace and stability. The discussion on Ukraine was important, especially since Mr. Macron had recently taken part in talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During their call, the leaders looked at developments in bilateral cooperation in various areas, including economic matters, defense, science, technology, and space. They confirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership according to the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, the Indo-Pacific roadmap, and the defense industrial roadmap. The Prime Minister also thanked Mr. Macron for accepting the invitation to the AI Impact Summit, which India will host in February, and expressed his eagerness to welcome the French President.
This conversation with Mr. Macron came after Mr. Modi’s recent diplomatic efforts with key figures in the conflict. The Prime Minister met Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. He told Mr. Putin that India supports all recent efforts for peace in Ukraine. This meeting occurred just two days after Ukrainian President Zelenskyy spoke on the phone with Mr. Modi.
