1989 batch IPS officer from the Punjab cadre, Parag Jain, has been appointed the new chief of the Research and Analysis Wing India’s external intelligence agency. Jain is the second most senior official in RAW after his predecessor Ravi Sinha, who retires on June 30. Jain will assume office on July 1 for a 2 year term, as approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Jain currently heads the Aviation Research Centre and brings over two decades of intelligence experience, particularly in counter terrorism and strategic operations. His pivotal role in Operation Sindoor, enabled precision missile strikes on terror infrastructure across the LOC into Pakistan .
With extensive ground experience in Jammu and Kashmir during the abrogation of Article 370 and counter insurgency operations in Punjab, Jain is India’s answer to Pakistan’s efforts to revive terror networks in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. His diplomatic stints in Sri Lanka and Canada, where he monitored Khalistani terror modules, further prove his mettle.
Jain’s appointment will start a newer technology focused era for RAW. New priorities will surely contain advanced intelligence collection, monitoring diaspora communities, and countering hybrid warfare from China and Pakistan. His stint at the ARC introduced drones. Jain’s strategic vision and operational expertise will be crucial for India as geopolitical tensions threaten to bubble over.
