In a major political move in West Bengal, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and Humayun Kabir have announced a new partnership.
This alliance between AIMIM and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) is not just for the upcoming state elections but will last until the 2029 national polls.
Speaking to a large crowd in Murshidabad on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Owaisi called Kabir his “elder brother” and said they are working together to give the Muslim community a stronger voice in politics. They plan to challenge the current government by contesting 182 out of the 294 seats in the state.
Owaisi criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for not doing enough for the state’s large Muslim population. He pointed out that while Muslims make up about 30% of the people in Bengal, they hold very few government jobs.
By forming this alliance, Owaisi and Kabir hope to gather these votes and show that they can be a real alternative to the existing parties. Kabir, who used to be with the TMC before starting his own party, said the large number of people at their rally shows that many are unhappy with the current leadership and are ready for a change.
The alliance is focusing on areas like Murshidabad and Malda, where their support is strongest. They want to prove that they are more than just a temporary group and are committed to staying together for the long run.
By looking ahead to the 2029 elections, they are telling voters that they have a permanent plan for the future.
As the state gets ready to vote in late April, this new team is shaking up the usual competition between the TMC and the BJP, promising to fight for the rights and needs of the people they represent.
