India’s Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi is all set to address the escalating pro-khalistan activities seen in parts of the UK besides the expected signing of the free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom. New Delhi has consistently expressed its displeasure over the perceived lack of action against groups promoting separatist ideologies on foreign soil, arguing that these movements threaten India’s internal security and communal harmony.

For years, India has shown concern about extremist groups abroad using the freedom of expression as a shield to promote separatist ideologies. In cities like London, pro-Khalistan rallies and attacks on Indian diplomatic missions have unsettled not just officials but the Indian diaspora.

Indian officials have already prepared detailed dossiers and are expected to press for expedited legal cooperation and the need to respect international understandings on law enforcement.

During the visit, besides discussing the whole gamut of India-UK ties with his British counterpart Keir Starmer,PM Modi is also expected to call upon King Charles III, stated the officials.

“The issue of the presence of Khalistani extremists and bodies close to these people is again something that we have brought to the attention of our partners in the UK,” The Foreign Secretary said.

He said, Modi’s visit to the UK will give both sides the opportunity to review the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship and discuss ways to strengthen it further.

The Prime Minister has visited the country preliminary in 2015 and 2018.

Modi was also in the UK in 2021 for the COP26 summit in Glasgow.
