Prime Minister Narendra Modi today officially inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan, the new building that will now house the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Located near India Gate, this modern office complex is part of the larger Central Vista redevelopment project.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi said Kartavya Bhavan is not just a new building but a symbol of India’s commitment to good governance and efficient administration. “This building reflects our resolve to work with a sense of duty — kartavya— for the progress of the nation,” he said.
What is Kartavya Bhavan?
Kartavya Bhavan is a state-of-the-art government building built to replace the older offices of MHA and MEA located in North and South Block. The new structure is designed to be modern, eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and fully digital, making work smoother and faster for thousands of government employees.
The building will house senior ministers, secretaries, and staff from both key ministries — the MHA, which handles internal security, and the MEA, which deals with foreign relations.
Part of a Bigger Plan
The inauguration of Kartavya Bhavan is part of the Central Vista project — a massive plan to redesign the heart of New Delhi, including the new Parliament building (already completed), the Prime Minister’s residence, and other key ministry offices.
PM Modi said that this transformation will help make Indian governance more future-ready and bring various departments closer for better coordination.
Citizens at the Centre
PM Modi emphasized that Kartavya Bhavan will serve the people of India more effectively. “This building may be made of concrete, glass, and steel, but its foundation is built on duty, service, and dedication to the people,” he said.
With this move, India takes another step toward a more modern and efficient administrative system, aiming to improve service delivery and policy implementation for all citizens.
