LPG Cylinder Price Hiked by ₹29; Second Increase in Three Months

Domestic LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) cylinder prices have been increased by ₹29 per 14.2-kg cylinder across India, effective from June 7. The hike marks the second increase in the last three months and is expected to impact millions of households that rely on cooking gas for daily needs.

Following the latest revision, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen from ₹913 to ₹942. Similar increases have been implemented in other major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. Oil marketing companies cited rising global energy costs and mounting financial pressure as key reasons behind the price adjustment.

According to government data, state-run oil marketing companies continue to incur significant losses on domestic LPG sales, estimated at nearly ₹700 per cylinder even after the latest hike. Officials argue that the increase remains far below international LPG prices and is necessary to partially offset under-recoveries faced by fuel retailers.

The price hike has triggered criticism from opposition parties, which claim that repeated increases in fuel and cooking gas prices are adding to the financial burden on ordinary families. Political leaders have questioned the timing of the increase amid concerns over inflation and rising household expenses.

This latest revision brings the cumulative increase in domestic LPG prices since March 2026 to ₹89 per cylinder. Analysts attribute the trend to higher international energy prices and supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Consumers are expected to feel the impact as cooking gas remains an essential household commodity across the country.
