The Ministry of Education has clarified that the Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is not legally bound to personally answer questions raised by a parliamentary House panel.

]The clarification was made by the ministry’s Secretary during a committee meeting. The statement came after members of the House panel sought responses from the CBSE regarding matters related to the education system. According to the Secretary, CBSE is an autonomous body, and the ministry or authorised officials can provide the required information to the committee on its behalf.

The clarification has sparked discussions on the accountability of autonomous educational bodies before parliamentary committees. While some members stressed the importance of direct interaction with the CBSE chief, officials maintained that existing administrative procedures would continue to be followed. The matter is expected to be discussed further in future meetings of the parliamentary panel.
